I could never make the abuser not abuse our children, and me. Accepted. The level of toxicity shown by the abuser, and the level of toxicity I had allowed or accepted for myself, have each called forth higher qualities from everyone exposed, IF it is seen for the opportunity it is.

Al-Anon, because it clarified and exposed that opportunity, became an invaluable tool in my wholing. The following are my gains:

The capacity to notice, speak to, and cut toxicity from my experience at its roots, no matter who is directing it—beginning with myself.

My voice and the ability to be direct without ill intentions—self care.

Self esteem, self trust, security, self value and self love.

The ability to call a donkey a donkey, to identify something for what it is, without judgement—discernment, clarity and courage.

Remain open, with the ability to set boundaries without building walls. (including the permanent cutting of pranic chords from toxic soulmate energies)

Finally, Wisdom, peace & sanity, by staying in my lane, and minding my business.

My attention is refocused where it belongs, on my own behaviours, words and actions, which is the absolute perfect environment for laser-focused Intuition.

The abuser played their part really hard. Allowing it, I played my part maybe harder, a deficient role I dropped for the search of diamonds. I intend you also mine the diamonds from your roughs.

We deserve to receive and give the best that love has to offer—Melody Beattie, pg. 200, The Language of Letting Go.
